Dual Peace Initiative — The Distance Between Two Silences

Dual Peace Initiative — The Distance Between Two Silences

A novel by Fawaz Elahl

Two wars. Two separate histories. One question: Can independent paths toward peace be supported without sacrificing the rights, security, or identity of either people?

From Vancouver to Geneva, eastern Ukraine, and Gaza, Dual Peace Initiative follows a writer, diplomats, and ordinary families confronting the distance between a promise of peace and its consequences.

Miriam works to develop a framework for independently negotiated ceasefires. Olena hopes her son will return safely to school. Salma searches for water, medicine, and reliable information while protecting her daughter. Roar examines whether a shared discipline of restraint can help without pretending that two conflicts are one.

Through five chapters, a Prologue, and an Epilogue, the novel explores diplomacy, humanitarian access, verification, civilian participation, and the responsibilities that remain after an agreement is announced.

Peace is not simply the absence of violence. It is the work required to make safety possible.
